Service - Academy & Participation

We work alongside social workers, education, health, and early help advocating for children and young people's views to ensure participation, co-production is effective within Children and Families Service.

What is the role?

As a young person who is 16+ and are in or has been through the care system.  You will act as a role model for other children and young people in care and promoting equality across the services from early help to looked after children.    Your job is to improve the experiences for others in care by using your invaluable knowledge to inform, educate and inspire the people making decisions who are involved in the day to day support given to children and young people in care. 

To do this you will be involved in ensuring the quality of social work practice through delivery and inspections.  As well as recruiting children social care staff.  You will take part in recruitment events for Portsmouth Fostering, making presentations and running workshops and attending national events. 

You will also organise consultation and surveys, you will be actively involved in the training in social work matters skills academy.  You will be meeting Children, young people, Directors, Members, Senior Management Teams and social workers to influence the shaping of delivery of services whilst attending residential and support meetings.  You will also be involved in communicating to children and young people all the positive participation work that goes on in the children and families service, this will be done by updating our social media presence, regular newsletters, poster and letters.     

 

You will be working alongside the Participation Officer, Service Leader for the Academy and Participation and other professionals. 

 

Who is the person?

You need to have:

  • Been a looked after child in Portsmouth.
  • Good literacy
  • Numeracy skills
  • Listening skills
  • To be able to communicate and build relationships with other young people and professionals.
  • Have a passion about communication
