We are looking for a professional to deliver home based Portage and home/nursery based Portage Plus (for preschool children with social communication needs) to an allocated caseload ensuring the principles of Portsmouth City Council Inclusion Service and Portage are upheld. You will be working in partnership with families and carers helping them understand their child's needs, to be able to learn strategies, techniques and skills together. Using these approaches you will teach parents and practitioners how to help the child learn, play, participate and be included in their community. A Portage Visitor provides teaching and support tailored to each child and family’s individual needs. This is a varied and challenging role, where each visit will be different.
You need to have a minimum early year’s qualification at NVQ3 in Early Years & Education or relevant professional qualification such as teaching, social worker or nursing with an underpinning knowledge of child development and have attended the certified National Portage Association training.
Ideally acquired other relevant training in the field of SEND such as Makaton, PECS, Autism, PMLD, sensory needs. With broad and extensive experience of working directly with young children with SEND / disability / developmental delay.
It is essential to have daily use of a car as you will be managing your own caseload, visiting families across the city and transporting equipment.
