Revenues and Benefits provide customer and financial services to the residents and businesses of Portsmouth, and is part of the wider Community and Communications directorate. The Local Taxation team manages the billing and collection of Council Tax.

Your new role

Reporting to the Local Taxation Team Leader, the post holder will administer council tax and business rates accounts, ensuring databases are accurately updated to reflect the collection and administration of council tax and Non-Domestic Rates.

You will be dealing with a high volume of customer enquiries by correspondence, telephone and face to face,  determining who is liable for council tax / Non-Domestic rates, assessing requests for discounts, disregards, exemptions and reliefs and will also be negotiating payment arrangement and providing advice to customers experiencing financial difficulty.

What you'll need to succeed

We're looking for an experienced local taxation officer who has in-depth knowledge and substantial experience in council tax adminstration to join our friendly team.

If you have excellent customer service and communication skills and are confident in negotiating and advising customers on liability for council tax and/or business rates please apply.
