The Museums Service is currently working with the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) to display D-Day landing craft LCT 7074 on the Southsea seafront near The D-Day Story. This craft is a unique survivor from the Second World War, and took ten tanks to Normandy on D-Day, 6 June 1944. The LCT 7074 project and this post are funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We are looking for a Museum Collections Apprentice to support the D-Day Museum Development Officer with various aspects of the LCT 7074 project, with a particular focus on making various items that relate to the landing craft available online.
You will be working on The D-Day Story's collections of artefacts and archives, including a large collection of memoirs of landing craft crewmen, which will be scanned or photographed and made available to the public online. You may need to edit photographs and transcribe written memoirs as well as complete basic research to help inform the displays.
One day a week you will be working at the NMRN and you may ocassionally take part in public events related to the LCT 7074 project and The D-Day Story.
