Coronavirus: council service information and advice

Information about changes to council services as a result of coronavirus

Portsmouth Guildhall will once again host the ceremony to formally elect the new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth.

The event sees the new mayor granted the Keys to the City and presented with the Portsmouth Sword - a symbol of the interdependence between the city and the Royal Navy. It's also the chance to honour people making a real change to the city, with a series of Civic Awards that recognise those people who have improved the local community.

The new mayor is chosen by Councillors who put forward their suggestions before a vote is taken. Once a mayor is chosen they take up the post and nominate the charities for which they will be raising funds throughout the year.

Tickets are free but must be secured in advance from city libraries.
