Groundlings Theatre is steeped in history. Opened in 1784, it was the first free school in the city known as The Old Benny. The downstairs was the classroom and the upstairs was used by the Beneficial Society for meetings, theatre and concerts.
You can learn more about its past including the truth surrounding Charles Dickens' birth and former pupil Sir Henry Ayers who has a rock named after him in Australia.
Costumed actors will bring the history to life and take you through the sights and sounds of The Old Beneficial School.
