Take a guided tour of Fort Cumberland, described by Pevsner as: "Perhaps the most impressive piece of C18 defensive architecture remaining in England."
This tour of historic Fort Cumberland, a coastal fortification rebuilt from 1782 onwards, takes in the two buildings from the first fort of 1747. Visitors will get the chance to see the ramparts with their gun emplacements of various dates, the magazines, and the well-preserved High Angle battery of 1890-1894. The tour also takes in the small prison cell known as the Black Hole, and a mid 20th-century cinema/theatre.
This is a rare opportunity to see this exceptional site, and tours have been very popular. Early booking is advised.
