The Groundlings theatre invites you to travel back in time to 1812 this November to witness some of Dickens’ greatest work.
On the 6th February 1812 Mr and Mrs Dickens attended a royal naval ball held in this historic building. Mid ball Mrs Dickens' water broke and was urgently rushed back to Land Port, Portsmouth, where the next day (7th of February) Charles Dickens would be later born. To celebrate his great work the theatre is producing a performance from one of his most well-known novels, A Christmas Carol and wants to invite you to enjoy this performance.
As if it's historic background wasn't enough the performance is a very unique experience for the family. To emphasise the family-friendly atmosphere there's a mother and her three sons as part of the acting cast and the father as part of the backstage crew.
