The Pompey Monster Walk to School Challenge was initially a pilot scheme to encourage children to walk to school regularly.  Following its success in nine Portsmouth schools, including most recently St John's Cathedral Catholic School and Ark Ayrton Primary Academy, we continue to offer the initiative to other schools in the city. The next schools to participate in the Pompey Monster Walk to School Challenge are:

  • Penhale Infant School
  • Mayfield School

This seven-week challenge runs from Monday 21 January until Friday 8 March 2019. Follow the link to sign up a pupil from one of these schools now. Pupils who have signed up for the challenge will receive a free pack from school with everything they need to take part in the challenge.

Follow the link for lots of useful information about walking to school.

The challenge

From Monday 21 January until Friday 8 March 2019 you need to stomp (walk, scoot or cycle) to school at least three times a week. Each week we will visit your school and all those who completed the challenge will be able to swap their stomp chart for a Pompey Monster keyring. There are eight different Pompey Monster keyrings to collect, including a limited edition glow in the dark keyring during half term.

Things to help

In the future, if you don't have time to walk all the way then why not Park and Stomp? Parking a short distance from the school and walking the rest of the way in helps children to stay active and keeps the school gates clear of cars. Maps for selected schools are available to download below.
