Portsmouth's University Technical College (UTC) will open in September 2017 to educate tomorrow’s engineers, inventors, scientists and technicians. 

With a growing demand for specialist technical skills students aged 14-19 will have the opportunity to study at a "hands on" technical college, alongside a traditional education.

The UTC will specialise in electrical and mechanical engineering, and advanced manufacturing - led by University of Portsmouth, the Royal Navy, Portsmouth City Council and Salterns Academy Trust it will open to students in September 2017.

Other key partners include BAE Systems, Qinetiq, and Land Rover BAR who as employer partners, will provide a realistic context for project work and work alongside the teachers in designing and tailoring learning activities and support the delivery of education.

Located in the grounds of Trafalgar School in Hilsea, the UTC is open to students from across the region in Years 10-13 (aged between 14-19 years old).  They will have the opportunity to study 'hands-on' technical subjects alongside a traditional academic education. 

The UTC aims to increase the number of young people with the skills to become future engineers.
