Coronavirus: council service information and advice
Information about changes to council services as a result of coronavirus
A £1.8 million scheme of planned work to prevent structural damage and apply special corrosion resistant paint will begin on the Eastern Road Water Bridge in Portsmouth on Monday 20 March 2017.
This essential project needs to take place in order to prevent further damage to the structure to the bridge, which is one of the major routes on and off the island. Structural concrete repairs and general improvement works may also take place at the same time.
A barge will be used to put up scaffolding from underneath the bridge to avoid disrupting road users. There will be some lane closures as part of the scheme but these will be outside of rush hour and details will be added to this page in advance. There will also be some temporary footpath closures but diversions will be clearly sign posted.
The work is being carried out by contractor Raymond Brown Construction and subcontractors SCA on behalf of Portsmouth City Council and is due to finish in Autumn 2017.
Temporary offices and rest facilities will be installed in part of the car park by Farlington Marshes for the contractors to use during the works.
