Funding and guidance has now been received from the Government, so Portsmouth City Council can now start preparations to make payments to businesses eligible for the Small Business Grant Fund and the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Grant Fund.
Businesses are encouraged to check if they are eligible on the website and then complete the online form so payments can be processed. The council will be making payments as quickly as possible but ask business to be patient as IT systems need to be changed and there will be a lot of applications to process.
Under the Small Business Grant Fund all businesses in England receiving small business rates relief with a rateable value of less than £15,000 will be eligible for a grant of £10,000. Businesses who do not currently receive small business rates relief and think they may be eligible should check the criteria on the council's website www.portsmouth.gov.uk/businessfunding
Under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant businesses in England receiving the expanded retail discount (which covers retail, hospitality and leisure) with a rateable value of less than £51,000 will be eligible for a cash grant of either £10,000 or £25,000 per property. Again businesses should check the criteria on the council's website.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture and City Development, said "We know these are extremely worrying times for businesses and employers in the city but we are committed to helping them. We have now received funding from the Government and will begin processing payments as quickly as we can.
"We want businesses to survive this crisis and ultimately keep local residents in employment, which is why we have also opened a dedicated helpline. If you are looking for help and support then please do call the team.
"We urge everyone to follow the latest government advice and check the council website for the latest local information."
To apply for grant funding please complete the online form here as soon as possible.
