The Association for Cultural Enterprises Best Product Wards has shortlisted Gustav the pigeon in their Best Children's product award (under £1m) category.
The cuddly Gustav toy is available to buy at The D-Day Story the museum dedicated to the Allied Invasion in June 1944.
Gustav the pigeon played a crucial role on D-Day; he carried the message of the success of the campaign across the channel to allied commanders and was awarded a Dickin Medal - the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross - created to honour the work of animals in World War II
Visitors like reading Gustav's story, seeing the medal awarded to him which is on loan to The D-Day Story from the family that owned him.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture Leisure and Sport said: "Gustav is one of our most popular gift shop items as children are enthralled by his unusual and heroic story and the important part he played on D-Day."
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the Association for Cultural Enterprises Gala Dinner on 28 February 2019.
