Commercial Road is getting into the festive spirit with the return of the annual German-style Christmas market.

The city centre is hosting 18 traditional log cabins offering food, drink and gifts from 9am to 6pm every day (9pm Thursdays and 5pm Sundays). Goods on offer include personalised Christmas stockings and tree decorations, sweets, chocolates, bags, scarves and jewellery.

Shoppers can also take a break and stop for a warming cup of gluhwein from the Bavarian-style bar or a filling bratwurst from the sausage grill, before setting off on their next round of present-hunting.

Visitors may even be lucky enough to experience snowflakes filling the air, courtesy of the market's snow flurry machine.

And of course, the market wouldn't be the same without Olaf the singing moose – a kids' favourite.

Cllr Donna Jones, Leader of the Council, said: "I'm delighted we're welcoming back the Christmas market, it's a great addition to the city centre at this time of year and gives shoppers something a little bit different to enjoy."

On Thursday 16 November the Lord Mayor, Cllr Ken Ellcome and Father Christmas will be joined by the stars of the King's Theatre pantomime Snow White to switch on the Christmas lights in Commercial Road.

The festive family fun starts at 4pm with local dance groups providing the entertainment. The switch-on ceremony will be followed by a firework display.
