Local shopping areas in Portsmouth are receiving a boost this festive season, with the introduction of Christmas lights in more areas of the city. Seasonal sparkle will be added to Allaway Avenue, Havant Road, Tangier Road, Fawcett Road, Winter Road and Copnor Road. This in addition to the lights that are usually installed in Southsea, the city centre and Cosham.
Cllr Ben Dowling, the council's Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "These streets are home to many independent shops, and we know that the Christmas trading period is crucial for them. We hope the addition of the lights in these areas will help to increase footfall, boost their trade and also spread some festive cheer across the city".
The council are also helping local businesses by supporting Small Business Saturday this coming weekend, with free parking offered in selected council car parks, plus special events in Albert Road and Castle Road. This will be complemented by an enhanced Park & Ride service on Saturday 1st December, with buses running more frequently than usual. Find out more.
