We're facing a period of significant change in health and social care. We know we need to make changes to how we deliver services - not only to make sure they'll be fit for the future, but to make sure that they work well for the people who use them.
The first step on this journey is understanding the experiences of people using social care today - that's why we're recruiting volunteers for two research projects.
Project one: social care video diaries
Who we're looking for: Current social care users from a range of backgrounds. We want to get a snapshot of the different types of social care users, so we welcome applications from people using any Adult Social Care service.
What's involved: We're looking for people who can share their experiences - both good and bad - of navigating the social care system. We'll expect you to complete a regular video diary over the space of two to four weeks - ideally we'd like you to record a daily update, but we can agree a frequency that works for you. You'll need to attend two short sessions at the start and end of the project.
How will my video diary be used: Your videos will be watched by our market research officer, who will use what you share to write a report outlining your experiences in a way that will help the Adult Social Care team better understand the challenges you face - and what we can do better in the future. This report and key features of it will be shared publically, but all content will be anonymised.
When do I need to be available: You can complete your video diary between November and December 2017.
Project two: tell your social care story
Who we're looking for: We'd like to recruit current or recent social care users, their carers, their families and their professionals to tell the story of what Adult Social Care in Portsmouth is like. We want to show to diversity of services offered by Adult Social Care, so will select participants to reflect this.
What's involved: We're looking for people who can share their experiences on film - both good and bad - of navigating the social care system. We want to get to the heart of what social care means to you. We can visit you at home or any other suitable location in the city, and expect interviews to last no more than 2 hours.
How will my video diary be used: Your videos will be used as part of a toolkit, which will include a five to ten minute film and a discussion guide to help people explore some of the themes, experiences and challenges shared in the film. It will be shown with council and NHS staff and the wider community, so you'll need to be happy with your views and experiences being shared with the general public.
When do I need to be available: Filming will take place in October 2017.
