Decision on expansion of Cliffdale Primary Academy

A report has been published by Portsmouth City Council recommending the closure of the Willows Centre for Children and to continue to deliver the specialist provision provided by Willows as part of an expanded Cliffdale Primary Academy, operated by Solent Academies Trust.

Statutory consultation was undertaken between 18 January and 15 February 2019 with parents, carers, staff and other interested parties and the findings and report can be viewed here:

Solent Academies Trust is a strong Multi Academy Trust responsible for three special schools in the city including Cliffdale Primary Academy, which is judged by Ofsted to be an outstanding school. If the proposal is approved staff from the Willows Centre for Children would transfer to Solent Academies Trust under TUPE legislation and pupils would continue to attend the provision.  The Willows Centre for Children would officially close on 31 August 2019 and Cliffdale Primary School would officially expand on 1 September 2019 using the existing Willows premises.

The expansion of Cliffdale Primary Academy is subject to approval from Secretary of State - if it is not approved then Willows will remain open.

Portsmouth City Council's cabinet member for education, Councillor Suzy Horton, will consider the report and make a decision at a meeting on 20 March 2019.
