The D-Day Story is holding its annual D-Day conference with a range of talks by expert speakers about D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.

The conference is on Saturday 22 September from 9am - 5.30pm at The D-Day Story.

The event is aimed at a wide range of people, whether they have a long-standing interest in D-Day or are just curious to find out more about this subject.

  • Dr David Abrutat from the University of Buckingham will be talking about how the D-Day planners found out more about the Normandy terrain and which beaches were suitable for the landings.

  • Dr Edward Flint from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst will talk about how the British military interacted with French civilians during the fighting.

  • Dr Stephen Hart from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is presenting on the Worthington Force Battle Group.

  • Journalist and author Linda Hervieux will tell the story of the black US soldiers who landed on D-Day.

There is also a chance to hear from museum staff how the new displays were created, and to get an insider’s look at some of the key artefacts in the displays.

Cllr Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture Leisure and Sport said: "This is a great opportunity for those interested in D-Day to learn more, especially in the run up to the 75th anniversary next year.  The newly opened D-Day Story is the perfect backdrop for the conference and with our expert staff and speakers on hand to impart their knowledge it's one not to miss!"

Tickets are £30 each with concessions available and must be purchased in advance.  Lunch and refreshments are included.
