Portsmouth City Council has successfully secured £140,000 in funding from Arts Council England for a two year project to raise awareness of the Conan Doyle Collection and increase awareness of and involvement in the City Archive Collections.

It will also support literacy in the city by funding support for creative writing for all ages and abilities including our existing community of writers in the city and by increasing engagement with literary events such as Book Fest and the short story competition.

Cllr Linda Symes Cabinet Member for Culture Leisure and Sport said: "We'll use the funding to work with our archive to tell Portsmouth's historic stories using a variety of media and introduce creative writing competitions and writing events for children.  Our newly opened Portsmouth Writers Room will also be used to create a hub to support writers and publishers."
