Portsmouth City Council opened its doors to members of one of the city's home educators groups.
Council Leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson and Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Suzy Horton, met with three members of the Portsmouth Home Educators Group, who provide social and educational activities and events for home educators in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas.
Claire Marshall, representative for the group, said: "Today's meeting was very positive - we've come away with a list of suggestions that we can both put into action to help our group work better with the council. It's all about doing what's best for children and young people."
Cllr Suzy Horton said: "Today was a great opportunity to start the conversation about how we can foster a positive relationship with parents in the city that choose to home educate. We look forward to working together with groups like this in the future."
The commitment to work more closely with people choosing to electively home educate was discussed and agreed at the December 2018 meeting of the Education, Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel.
