The council's payment system is powered by a supplier, whose systems have been affected by a major incident.
The problem is affecting a number of councils across the UK. They are working to fix the problem but it looks unlikely to be resolved before the bank holiday weekend.
This means we are currently unable to take card payments online, at our offices or on the phone. We are able to take cash and cheque payments in our offices, and you can still sign-up to pay your council tax by direct debit.
We appreciate that if you need to make a payment urgently, for example for a fixed penalty notice (FPN), parking ticket or School Attendance Fine, you may be concerned about whether you'll be able to make the payment on time. We'd like to reassure you that five days grace will be given for any payments that are due while the card payment system is unavailable. You will still need to make your payment.
Cash and cheque payments can be taken at the Civic Offices, Guildhall Square, from 9am-4pm on Friday. Council offices will then be closed until 9am on Tuesday 30th May.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
