The museums sector has dramatically changed in the past few years. Many museums, including the six museums owned and run by Portsmouth City Council, are working with less resources and capacity. However, the potential for museums to support broader social and economic aspirations has never been greater.
Museums are more than the buildings that house them, more than their constituent collections. At their best, museums offer ‘two-way relationships with communities, drawing on a wide range of skills, knowledge, experience and networks. They are becoming increasingly outward looking, building more relationships with partners. They are welcoming more people as active participants.
The Portsmouth Museums' strategy hopes to reflect these exciting possibilities.
We would like to hear from you:
- What do you think about our approach?
- Do you have any ideas about how our museums can play a part in the community?
If so, please take the time to take part in our museums' strategy consultation and complete the online questionnaire by Sunday 22 February 2015.
The full strategy document can be accessed below too.
