New developments

New developments may be allocated under a special lettings arrangement outside of our normal allocations policy, as per section 16 of our allocations policy which you can download in 'Associated documents' below.

First Wessex Housing Association is currently nearing completion of a new development in Jubilee Avenue, consisting of fourteen houses and three flats. In accordance with section 16 of the allocation policy there will be a special lettings arrangement. Priority for nominations to this development will be given to existing social housing tenants in Portsmouth who are:

  • under-occupying their family-sized accommodation
  • requiring larger accommodation due to living in overcrowded situations

Any resulting vacancies will be offered to applicants on the waiting list in the normal way.

Portsmouth housing waiting list

The council has a housing allocation scheme (as required by the Housing Act 1996) which explains how social housing in this area is allocated. You can download documents showing the criteria we use to allocate housing below.

To be eligible to join the housing waiting list, you must have a housing need. Housing needs include:

  • being homeless
  • having a medical problem directly affected by your current accommodation
  • overcrowding.

Non-UK residents without access to public funds are not eligible to join the waiting list, but are offered advice on housing problems. When allocating housing, consideration is given to people with the highest priority, and in strict date order.

To apply to be added to the housing waiting list, most applications can be assessed on the phone, or in person. 

Previous property allocations

Below you can see how council properties have been allocated to people and families on the Portsmouth waiting list for the previous month.

The 'Properties allocated ...' document shows the number of properties allocated that month, listed by landlord, area, property type, property floor level and wait time for each priority housing band. The wait time counts the number of days from a person being given their priority housing band to the start of their tenancy.
