If you've been thinking about taking up running why not join one of the clubs below?

You could also check out what running events are coming up in your area if you want to train for a specific event to keep you motivated!

If it's running you want to get into, take a look at the Run! City Portsmouth project - an initiative between Run England and Portsmouth City Council - to help you start or return to social running.

Whether you consider yourself a runner, jogger, plodder or speed walker you'll be in the hands of qualified leaders whose aim is to help you have an enjoyable introduction to social running. Most groups follow a ten-week programme, which builds week by week, starting in January 2016.

For dates see the flyer in the documents section below, or contact our Sports Officer by email at sportsdev@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or telephone on 023 9284 1193.

Based at the Mountbatten Centre, they meet 7pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends for training,  split into various ability groups. There are about 400 members - over 18s only. The club stages six open races over the year.

A free group which meets every Wednesday at Paulsgrove Community Centre.

This local group can offer the support of a qualified and insured leader and gradually take you from walking to running in weekly sessions.  It costs just £2 a week - but you can have a free trial session before you decide - all beginners welcome.

Participants will also need to join Run in England - for just £20 you will receive one year membership, a T-shirt, logbook, water bottle and newsletters.
