Portsmouth City Council is celebrating the success of the Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme, making a positive difference for residents across the city.

The Council’s Energy Service delivered the scheme in the city, and led a consortium working alongside 31 other local authorities across Hampshire, West Sussex, Berkshire and other areas under the Warmer Homes Consortium working with partner organisation AgilityEco to make homes more energy efficient.

More than 70 households across Portsmouth benefitted from a total of 170 energy-efficiency upgrades. These included solar panels with battery storage, hybrid air-source heat pumps, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation – bringing long-term benefits such as lower energy bills, reduced carbon emissions and warmer, healthier homes.

Cllr Kimberly Barrett, Cabinet Member for Climate Change & Greening in the City said:

“It’s fantastic to see so many Portsmouth residents benefiting from this scheme. Not only are households saving money on their energy bills, but they’re also using greener, more sustainable energy.

This scheme remains open to applications until 2028. If you do not qualify for this scheme, there is still plenty of support available through the Switched On Portsmouth team. Whether residents need advice, help with energy issues or guidance on accessing further schemes, I would encourage anyone to get in touch and see what support is available to them.”

The scheme has been particularly valuable for low-income households, those living in older or less energy-efficient homes, and residents impacted by rising energy costs. By providing fully funded upgrades including insulation, heating improvements and renewable technologies, it has helped households stay warm and lower bills.

While the scheme is open to households using any type of fuel, those who heat their homes with oil or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) will be prioritised for upgrades due to the sharp rise in these fuel prices.
