Families across Portsmouth are being invited to a relaxed afternoon and evening of activities, information and support for families of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).

Organised by Portsmouth City Council, Local Offer Live – the Big SEND activity is a free event being held on Wednesday 17 June from 2 – 7pm, at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth.

The event is proud to be part of Portsmouth100, celebrating the people, communities and connections that make the city special. The organisers are aiming to connect with 100 families or more to make this the biggest Local Offer Live yet.

Bringing together over 30 local services, organisations and community groups, Portsmouth families will be given the chance to chat directly with professionals who support SEND across the city all under one roof.

Alongside information and advice, families can enjoy a wide range of free activities, including multisports, dance, arts, crafts and more. The event has been designed to be relaxed, welcoming and fun, allowing children and young people to take part in activities and parents and carers to explore the support available to them.

The programme also includes talks on neurodiversity, as well as interactive workshops focused on supporting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing, sharing practical ideas and guidance that families can take away and use at home.

Running from the afternoon into the early evening, the event has been planned to make it easier for families to attend together after school and work, and to enjoy the event at a pace that suits them.

Councillor Nick Dorrington, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said:

“Local Offer Live is a valuable opportunity for families to come together, enjoy a range of activities, and learn more about the support available for children and young people with SEND in Portsmouth.

“The event has been designed to be both informative and enjoyable, giving families the chance to discover services, advice and activities that can support them over the summer and beyond.”

Local Offer Live is completely free to attend, but booking is required.
