Residents have been actively involved in the re-procurement of the new gas contract and the selection of an appropriate contractor to deliver the service. Their feedback directly informed the evaluation process.
Portsmouth Homes, the name for Portsmouth City Council’s landlord service, has appointed Sureserve Compliance South as the new contractor responsible for gas servicing and repairs across its social housing stock, with the contract beginning 1 April 2026. This is a five-year contract, but could be extended to ten years.
After incorporating resident feedback, Sureserve Compliance South will now take over all gas servicing and repairs for Portsmouth Homes.
As part of the new partnership, both organisations have committed to working together to support decarbonisation and greener ways of operating. Sureserve Compliance South will transition its fleet to fully electric vehicles over the course of the contract, with support from Portsmouth Homes.
Cllr Darren Sanders, Cabinet Member for Housing and Tackling Homelessness said:
“Residents are at the heart of everything we do – after all, it’s their homes we are repairing. That’s why it’s great to see them so involved in shaping our new gas service. I look forward to Sureserve delivering those improvements.”
Ian Childs, Client Relationship Director of Sureserve Compliance South said:
“We are delighted to be appointed as Portsmouth Homes dedicated gas compliance contractor and we applaud the robust procurement exercise that involved a number of the residents who played such an important part of the process. Sureserve Compliance South are focussed on safety and customer service for the residents of Portsmouth Homes and we are committed to sharing the same core values of respect, integrity, collaboration and integrity.”
Sureserve Compliance South already operates in the Portsmouth area and is committed to hiring locally, creating job opportunities for residents and making sure staff have strong knowledge of the city and its communities. This local expertise will support the delivery of a high‑quality, responsive service.
Under the new contract, Portsmouth Homes tenants will benefit from more flexible appointment times, making it easier to access essential servicing. Portsmouth Homes also expects to make savings which will be reinvested back into maintaining and improving its housing stock.
