The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Portsmouth is a five-year project funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). It is a partnership between Portsmouth City Council, the University of Portsmouth, and HIVE Portsmouth. Together, we want to make research part of local decision-making so we can reduce health inequalities in our city.

We look at the things that affect health every day – the building blocks of life. These include housing, education, jobs, air quality, and access to parks and green spaces. These factors can affect how healthy and happy people are and can lead to unfair differences across Portsmouth.

Our team brings together experts, local knowledge, and real-life experience. We work with policy makers and services to make sure research is used in the right way. HDRC Portsmouth is more than just a project – it is a promise to listen, learn, and act. By working together, we aim to make Portsmouth a healthier and happier place for everyone.
