What photo ID can I use?
Accepted ID includes:
- UK or EEA passport
- UK or EEA driving licence
- Biometric immigration document
- National identity card (EEA)
- Older Person’s or Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
- Blue Badge
- PASS card (Proof of Age)
- Ministry of Defence ID or Veteran Card

What if I don’t have photo ID?
Apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. It’s an official photo ID for voting.
Can I use expired ID?
Yes, if the photo still looks like you. If not, apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.
Can I use a copy of my ID?
No. Photocopies or digital copies are not accepted.
What if I look different to my photo?
Your ID won’t be accepted. You should apply for a Voter Authority Certificate so you can still vote.
Does voter ID apply to postal or proxy votes?
- Postal votes: You’ll need an identity check when applying. Find out more about how to vote by post.
- Proxy votes: The proxy must show their own photo ID at the polling station.
How long is a Voter Authority Certificate valid?
It lasts for more than one election. It is recommended to renew this at least every 10 years. However, because the photo must remain a good likeness of the voter it may be necessary to apply for a new one earlier.
