The D-Day Story has won Gold for Small Visitor Attraction of the Year at the prestigious Beautiful South Tourism Awards.

The Southsea museum was up against Oxford Castle & Prison, which was awarded Silver, and Gusbourne – The Nest in Appledore, which won Bronze.

The Beautiful South Awards is Tourism South East’s annual celebration recognising the top tourism and hospitality businesses in South East England, including Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent.

The event took place on Tuesday 9 December at the Grand in Brighton and saw the best of the best in the South East compete in a number of different categories, such as Exceptional Service, Sustainability, and Visitor Experience. Entries were judged by experts for Gold, Silver, Bronze or Commended status.

It is the third award the museum has picked up in the past year, winning Portsmouth Business Award for Visitor Attraction/Event of the Year 2025, and Shop of the Year at the Museum + Heritage Awards.

Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council with responsibility for Culture, said: “It’s been a wonderful and successful few years for The D-Day Story, which is one of the many jewels in Portsmouth’s cultural crown that makes us all proud to call the city our home, and this latest award demonstrates the sheer dedication and hard work of the team across the museums service.”

Fran Downton, chief executive of Tourism South East, said: “It was a pleasure to celebrate the hard work, professionalism and commitment across our region. The South East continues to set a high bar, and everyone recognised should feel incredibly proud.”

This marks the end of a busy few years for The D-Day Story, which formed a key part of the D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations in 2024 and marked the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with a number of events throughout 2025.
