As a White Ribbon accredited organisation, the Council is leading efforts to challenge harmful attitudes and promote solidarity across the city. Residents are encouraged to wear a white ribbon and make the white ribbon promise to never commit, excuse, or remain silent about male violence against women.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of the Council, said: “As a White Ribbon accredited Council, we’re committed to changing attitudes and behaviours that enable violence against women and girls. Everyone can help by raising awareness and calling out abusive behaviour. I encourage men and boys in Portsmouth to make the white ribbon promise to never commit, excuse, or stay silent about violence against women and girls.”
The White Ribbon flag was raised in Guildhall Square today (Thursday 25 November) with council members joined by partners from organisations across the city.
