A High Court case has settled the arguments about not needing a contract or consent to pay Council Tax and the need for written Liability Orders/Court Orders.

The elected Parliament made laws for the whole country. You don’t need a contract, and it is both “impossible and inappropriate” to get individual consent.

The Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement) Regulations 1992 do not require a written court issued Liability Order. The Leighton v Bristow & Sutor case showed that a signed court list with the number of Liability Orders is enough for the High Court to confirm the orders were made.

Valid ways to pay Council Tax are listed on the back of the bills. Promissory notes won’t be accepted, and action will continue if you still owe money.
