The transport hub reopened at 7:00 am this morning, following the completion of essential road surface replacement work on the bus apron, in front of the terminal building.
The Hard Interchange serves as a vital part of Portsmouth’s transport network, seamlessly connecting communities and promoting sustainable travel.
Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said:
“We are so pleased to be kicking off an exciting year of bus travel improvements with the full re-opening of the Hard Interchange.“The completion of this essential work, ensures that the Hard Interchange can continue operating as a vibrant and accessible transport hub for many years to come, welcoming visitors and supporting residents on local and national journeys. We sincerely thank passengers and operators for their patience and understanding throughout this important project.”
Portsmouth’s commitment to enhancing public transport has already produced remarkable results. According to the latest Department for Transport (DfT) figures, the city has achieved over a 20% increase in bus passengers over the past year and is recognised as the leading UK city for revitalising bus travel.
Looking ahead, 2025 is set to be a transformative year for Portsmouth’s public transport system. Under the Portsmouth Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), a £48 million investment from the DfT will continue to deliver significant upgrades to the city’s bus network, benefiting all road users.
