The council’s plans to develop the Bridge Centre in Fratton have taken a step forward. Refurbishment of existing retail spaces is underway to create a vibrant mix of new businesses alongside modern office spaces.

The Bridge Centre is already welcoming new tenants who will contribute to the centre’s exciting transformation. The Parenting Network’s Baby Bank has opened, providing vital resources to local families. Additionally, Fratton Together Pantry and Electric Dreamz’ Tech Museum are both scheduled to open later this year.

This project aligns with Portsmouth City Council’s long-term aspiration to work with retailers and property owners to help revitalise high streets. The Bridge Centre will become a dynamic mixed-use space, offering a blend of office areas, co-working environments, and local retail opportunities.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of the council with responsibility for economic development said:

“There is some great work happening at The Bridge Centre. I am delighted to welcome our new tenants to the centre. We are committed to supporting our businesses and community organisations as we work together to revitalise Fratton high street”

The Bridge Centre continues to operate as a local shopping centre while refurbishment works are carried out. The council is working closely with existing businesses in the centre and wider community to deliver change in the area. The centre will follow the model established by the council’s other enterprise centres to provide low-cost facilities and business support for local start-ups, small businesses, and community initiatives.

The Bridge Centre was bought by the council in September 2023 with funding from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund. The refurbishment is part of a wider regeneration to deliver change in the area through improvements to the high street, road network, pedestrian routes, and cycleways, as well as investing in new homes and employment opportunities.
