| Portsmouth City Council are inviting residents and businesses in the Norway Road area, and bus users of the 21 route to a drop in event to discuss proposed bus lane improvements for Norway Road.
The event will take place at Portsmouth Rugby Club on Norway Road on Wednesday 17 July at 2:30 – 7pm. The drop in event will be an opportunity to share details of the proposals and to hear people’s views.
The improvements proposed include:
- The addition of a westbound bus lane on Norway Road, stretching from Gunstore Roundabout to Copnor Road signals.
- The creation of two lanes: one dedicated to buses on the nearside and another for general traffic continuing straight on or turning left into Merlin Drive.
- The creation of a safer walking route through the area including a new zebra crossing and new footway.
These improvements are part of plans to help transform Portsmouth’s bus services, making them faster and more reliable, and more people taking the bus instead of driving means reduced congestion and better air quality for everyone.
Making changes to bus lanes on Norway Road can help us to see benefits to bus services on both Norway Road directly and can help to improve the bus route 21 for passengers across the city.
Cllr Peter Candlish, Cabinet Member for Transport at Portsmouth City Council, said
“Feedback from our local communities is essential in helping us to improve bus services in the city, making them faster and more reliable. We know that bus users in the city want more accessible bus journeys without delays, we urge everyone that lives and travels in this area to come down to our drop in event and share their thoughts on our proposals. This will help us to develop plans that work for everyone.”
Later in the year, there will be a 21 day period when feedback will be formally collected on the proposals. Further details will be shared nearer the time about how to have your say.
