Council Tax fraud
Council tax fraud happens when someone gives false information to avoid paying the correct amount. This means less money is available for important services in our area.
Examples of council tax fraud include:
- saying they live alone to get a discount when they don’t
- pretending to be a student to get a discount
- claiming a property is empty when it isn’t
- not telling us they need a council tax reduction
You can report Council Tax fraud online.
Direct care payment fraud
Direct care payments are meant to help people get the care they need. Fraud happens when the money is used for things that aren’t related to care.
If you know someone misusing their care payment, you can report it online.
Housing tenancy fraud
Housing tenancy fraud stops people who really need a home from getting one.
Examples include:
- renting out a council home without permission
- moving out and letting someone else live there
- staying in a home after someone has died without the right to do so
- living somewhere else permanently
- leaving a property empty without telling us
- getting a council home by giving false information
- not telling us about changes that affect the tenancy
You can report housing tenancy fraud online.
