Community champions are volunteers who share helpful information about health and wellbeing with people in their area. This could be with neighbours, friends, family or workmates.

You might share:

  • Tips on staying healthy
  • Activities that help people feel connected
  • Services that support people to live happier and healthier lives

You know your community best so you decide what to share and how to share it.

Could this role be right for you

Every community is different, and your support could make a big difference. Ask yourself:

  • Can I find out what matters most to people in my area?
  • Am I keen to help others?
  • Do I have good people skills — can I listen and respect others?
  • Can I build strong connections by having friendly conversations?
  • Can I help the council connect with local communities?
  • Can I share useful information with others?
  • Can I understand and share how people in my community feel?
  • Can I use what I know about my community to help local projects?

How to sign up

If you’re aged 18 or over and excited to support your community, we’d love to hear from you.

Portsmouth City Council welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds. We especially encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply, including Black, Chinese, Eastern European communities, people with disabilities and those who are neurodiverse. If you need any adjustments to help with your application, just let us know.
