People living in Paulsgrove are invited to take part in a community workshop, to help develop ideas to make the area an even happier and healthier place to live.

The ‘Healthy Living in Paulsgrove’ event will take place at Paulsgrove Community Centre on Saturday 18 May, 9.30am-12.30pm. Tea, coffee and bacon baps will be available for free, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Cllr Matthew Winnington, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing, Health and Care, said:

“We’ve been talking to residents for some time about what they like about living in Paulsgrove and what would make it even better. We know family activities, transport, health and community spaces are just some of the areas that are important, and now we want to know how we can work together to come up with ideas and actions to make a real difference in the area.”

Over the last nine months, Health and Care Portsmouth – a partnership of organisations working together to improve health and care – have been speaking to local residents about living happier and healthier lifestyles.

10 themes have been identified as areas of interest. These include:

  • Activities, events and support for children and families
  • Community activities and services for all ages
  • Transport
  • A community space
  • Shopping and food
  • Using online services
  • Accessing healthcare
  • Awareness
  • Raising aspirations and upskilling
  • Greening/environment

At the workshop, residents will talk about the themes with employees from Portsmouth City Council, the NHS, local schools, and charities, who are all keen to work together to come up with new and innovative ways for people to be happier and healthier.

It is hoped that a series of actions will be developed from the workshop which can then be implemented in the coming months.
