A new small business “taster” market will take place on Saturday 2 December in Portsmouth’s city centre as part of the national Small Business Saturday campaign. A selection of local entrepreneurs offering decorated chocolate, glassware and handmade children’s clothing have taken up the opportunity to showcase their products as part of a new initiative by the council to support local businesses to grow. Local buses will also offer free travel on Small Business Saturday.
Cllr Steve Pitt Leader of the council with responsibility for Economic Development said:
“Markets have long been the birthplace for local makers and independent businesses in the city. This is a fantastic opportunity for a selection of start-up businesses to develop and for residents to discover some great local businesses.
Our small businesses offer fantastic value and quality. They are vital for our economy and local communities, so I urge all to support them and protect local jobs “
Local bus companies First Solent and Stagecoach South will be offering free travel by bus on routes across Portsmouth to celebrate small and independent businesses for Small Business Saturday.
Over 200 of Portsmouth’s small businesses can be found on the council’s rediscoverportsmouth.co.uk website . Small Business Saturday is part of the council’s Christmas campaign to support Portsmouth’s businesses and to shop local.
