The finals weekend for the Formula Kite Europeans is taking place at Eastney Beach in Portsmouth this weekend (23-24 September) and is completely free to attend.

There will be something for all the family, including face painting for the kids, competitions, and virtual reality kiting, sailing and windsurfing experiences. There’s also a chance to get on the water with wing surfing taster sessions, thanks to the Andrew Simpson Centre* Portsmouth.

The event starts on Tuesday 19 September but will be open to spectators from 10am to 7pm on Saturday 23 September, and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 24 September.

The live show starts at 11am and racing is scheduled to start at noon on both days (subject to wind conditions). There will be a big screen to view the live action on the water along with commentary and a chance to hear directly from the athletes.

Councillor Steve Pitt, leader of the council, said: “I am pleased to see the Championships moving forward in Portsmouth, this is a fantastic opportunity to support local athletes and try your hand at something new. I wish the best of luck to all of those competing.”

How to get here.

The event will be located at the end of Eastney Esplanade, by Henderson Road.

There is limited parking nearby, with Bransbury Park Car Park, Fort Cumberland Car Park, Ferry Road Car Park all a short walk away. However, where possible, visitors are encouraged to use public transport – and remember that you can travel by bus for free throughout September, with the no.25 stopping close by, or attend on foot.
