The ever popular Live at the Bandstand is back for 2023 on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May at Castle Field to kick off a sizzling summer of free live music organised by Portsmouth City Council.

The first free event will run from 1pm until 4pm on both days. The line-up, with performances from Brass Holes Brass Band, Kingdom Kush, Van Gosh, Park Soda, Alice Milburn and Creature, has been brought together by Portsmouth club night, Beats & Swing.

Live at the Bandstand is going on tour across the city this summer with performances at Castle Field, Victoria Park, Southsea Common and King George V playing fields – while essential coastal defence work is carried out near the bandstand on Southsea Common. Live at Bandstand’s 2023 supporting sponsor Motorpoint will also be popping up at one of the Castle Field events over the summer with one of their brand-new cars.

Cllr Steve Pitt, the Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “Live at the Bandstand is always a popular event for all ages. With an amazing line up of musicians and performers over the summer, it’s a fantastic example of how our city is so rich in culture and creativity.  I’m delighted that the bandstand is heading off on tour around the city this year while the important work to improve our sea defences by Southsea Castle is completed.

“We hope that having different sites for bandstand events throughout Portsmouth means more people from across the city get to enjoy live music in their area.”

This fun, free, family event encourages visitors to bring picnics, blankets and chairs along, as well as those ever-important dancing shoes. Each event will have a different sound and flavour with different line-ups. Visitors are reminded that if the weather is hot, wear sun cream, stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks in the shade.
