A yellow weather warning of strong, gusty winds has cancelled tomorrow’s (24 Nov) planned Christmas Lights Switch On Party in Palmerston Road Southsea. Gusts of around 45mph have been predicted locally, strong enough to damage the stage and endanger people.
Southsea’s Christmas Lights and decorations including the tree are already in place and will be switched on tomorrow evening remotely.
A spokesperson from Portsmouth City Council said :
“We’re very sorry to have to make the decision to cancel the switch on event in Southsea tomorrow but the safety of residents and everyone involved to make the event happen has to come first. ”
The Christmas Lights Switch On Party in Southsea is part of a series of Christmas events to support local high streets. The next Lights Switch On event will take place on Thursday 1 December in Cosham High Street.
