Young people can take charge of their futures by enjoying an exciting and free leadership training course from Monday 24 to Thursday 27 October, during the half-term holiday, for school years 9 to 11 and college students aged 18 and under.
The practical training course, run by Active Leaders, will be held at Trafalgar School between 9.30am-3pm daily, with a healthy lunch included. The initiative is being supported and funded by HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) Fun Pompey.
Participants will develop their confidence through fun activities, which will prepare them to lead their own activity sessions. They will also learn key skills around event organisation and planning including marketing and finance.
Cllr Suzy Horton, the council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Families & Education, said: “I’d like to say to all the young people out there: even if you have no idea what you may want to do in the future, I encourage you to attend this fantastic event. It is an excellent opportunity for you to see where your hidden talents and aspirations may lie. It’s fun, it’s free and you’ll meet some great people.”
The event will give young people practical work experience and an opportunity to learn from local activity providers in the city, with volunteering opportunities within HAF at the end of the course. The course can be used on young people’s applications for college and university.
