Libraries Week is an annual week-long celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries, this year highlighting the significant role that libraries play in inspiring learning for all and helping individuals to unlock and fulfill their potential at every stage of life.
Throughout the week, there will be a variety of free activities to encourage residents to never stop learning. This year, there is a particular emphasis on the cost of living. Talks on how to save money on your water bill will be repeated at different locations to ensure all who wish to attend have the opportunity.
There will also be creative art workshops for adults, a Reading Sparks Science Tricks Show, and guitar playing (at Central Library). Tickets to almost all events can be booked online at portsmouth.spydus.co.uk or inside any Portsmouth library.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Portsmouth Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development, said: “We have a brilliant programme of activities during Libraries Week that we hope will bring the community together and encourage people to rediscover libraries. Libraries play such a vital role in our city, as well as being a place to learn they give people safe places to go, opportunities to enjoy activities and make friends. Best of all they are free to join.”
New visitors can get involved today by signing up for a library card online or at their local branch.
