EU citizens in Portsmouth are being encouraged to apply to the government to continue living in the UK.
EU, EEA or Swiss citizens and their families can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.
The EEA includes the EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
Anyone living here before 31 December 2020 has until 30 June 2021 to apply. But it’s best to apply as soon as possible.
It’s free to apply to the scheme.
Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “With the end of the EU transition period coming up on 1 January, we know this may be an uncertain time for local people who are EU citizens. We would encourage them to apply to this government scheme. If they’re successful, they’ll be able to continue living and working here, and playing their part in our life as a city.”
