2020 sees the 72nd anniversary of the arrival of MV Empire Windrush at the Port of Tilbury, near London, on 22 June 1948.
The arrival of the Empire Windrush marks a crucial moment in our shared history.
While many of the activities planned are digital to allow people to commemorate the day while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
- Tune in for the theatre adaptation of Andrea Levy’s Orange Prize-winning novel Small Island for free on the National Theatre’s YouTube page between 18-24 June
- Watch a film for free as part of the BFI’s ‘Black Britain on Film’ collection
- Find resources for young people and exclusive talks and interviews on the Royal Greenwich Museums website
- Explore writing from black and Caribbean authors with the British Library’s Windrush Stories project
