Residents in the MD zone extension and the MF zone areas will start to see posts installed soon, ready for the signs, with the plan to launch the zones later this summer.

Portsmouth City Council approved the MD zone extension and MF zone at the public decision meeting in February this year, after consulting local residents and businesses.

The zones are part of the rolling programme of Residents’ Parking Consultation, which was paused in response to government guidance during the lockdown. In response to the easing of lockdown restrictions, those involved in putting in the zones, council staff and external companies, are starting to return to their usual work.

The extension of the MD parking zone will operate the same hours as the rest of MD zone, between 4.30pm to 6.30pm which reflects the needs of that area by preventing long-term parking by non-residents’ vehicles.

Once a date for launch is available, the permit application packs will be sent out with details of how to apply for a permit during these unprecedented times.

Cllr Lynne Stagg, Cabinet Member for Traffic and Transportation, said: “Now that the government guidance says that it is safe to do so, I am pleased that we can start implementing the parking zones that residents have said they need, so they can park more easily when they get home.

“Managing car parking is essential when there are so many vehicles in the city. We will start consulting with further areas as per the Residents’ Parking Programme priorities as soon as we can.”
