Pathfinder for public service delivery

Portsmouth: a pathfinder for voluntary and community sector delivery of services

Portsmouth is one of 5 national ‘pathfinders’ committed to finding ways for the voluntary and community sector can delivery of local services.

The report below sets out Portsmouth’s actions to take this forward. In particular it identifies that the future role for the sector should not only be in regard to public service delivery, but should continue to recognise their role in

  • providing a voice for local people
  • lobbying and campaigning
  • promoting volunteering
  • supporting small voluntary and community groups who are unlikely to wish to become deliverers of public services
