By 'culture' we mean simply the ways we live our lives, covering all aspects of our lives - faith, politics, age, gender, relationships, family, ethnicity, sexual orientation and more. Cultural activity means many things: opera, football and dance classes, as well as children playing, public events or a walk on the seafront. It's all about all the many different ways we live our lives and enjoy our time, at home, work, or out having fun.
Cultural activity is increasingly recognised to be central in making make a vital contribution to everyone's well-being, and to the healthy life of the city as a whole, in all areas of life - economic and social, not just at a personal level. A city with a healthy cultural infrastructure is a good place to live - vibrant, buzzing, with lots to offer residents, businesses and visitors.
Below, you can view or download the full Cultural Strategy document, which we have made available in two separate sections, and you can link to the website of the Cultural Consortium, a group of interested local people, volunteers independent of the council, working to help implement this strategy in Portsmouth.
