Millennium Walk

Completed in 2002 the Millennium Renaissance project has created 6km of promenades around Portsmouth Harbour opening up areas closed off to the public for centuries by naval developments. These waterside promenades are constructed of high quality materials and offer marvellous views of the harbour. To symbolise the partnership between the communities of Portsmouth and Gosport, a chain motif has been set into the pavements along the promenade. This chain represents the link between past and present and echoes a time when chain was drawn across the harbour to ward off invaders. At night, lanterns along the promenade form a necklace of blue lights around the harbour.
